Overview
Kelowna RCMP Detachment
The Kelowna RCMP Detachment, located at 1190 Richter Street, serves as the primary law enforcement hub for the City of Kelowna. Operating under a municipal contract, this facility houses the main operations for uniformed patrol, investigative services, and administration. It is a central point of contact for residents requiring non-emergency police assistance, including reporting crimes where no suspect is present, such as property theft or mischief. The detachment is also home to Police-Based Victim Services, which provides critical emotional support, information, and referrals to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma.
Administrative Services
The front counter at the Richter Street detachment offers a range of administrative services to the public. Residents can access Police Information Checks (Criminal Record Checks) for employment or volunteer purposes, including Vulnerable Sector Checks. The facility provides fingerprinting services for immigration, citizenship, and record suspensions, as well as document verification. Other services include the processing of chauffeur’s permits and special operation permits. Fees for these services are payable on-site, with a federal processing fee applying to fingerprint-based checks.
Security and Access
Visitors to the detachment should be prepared for security screening upon entry. The facility maintains a secure environment, and standard prohibitions on weapons and recording devices apply. While the front counter operates during business hours for administrative needs, emergency 9-1-1 services and police dispatch remain active 24/7. The detachment emphasizes community partnership, working closely with residents to maintain public safety through crime prevention and education initiatives.
