Access to Justice for All in Hamilton
The Hamilton Community Legal Clinic is a non-profit community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario, dedicated to providing access to justice for low-income residents of Hamilton, Ontario. Formed in 2010 through the amalgamation of three local clinics, we have a long history of serving the community’s most vulnerable members. Our mission is to provide high-quality legal services that address the root causes of poverty and inequality. Whether you are facing eviction, having trouble with social assistance, or need help with a disability claim, our team is here to help.
Essential Legal Services
We provide free legal advice and representation in specific areas of law that impact the daily lives of low-income individuals. We also engage in community development and law reform to create systemic change.
- Housing Law: We assist tenants facing eviction, maintenance issues, and disputes with landlords to prevent homelessness.
- Income Maintenance: We help clients navigate the appeals process for Ontario Works (OW), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), and Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPP-D) benefits.
- Worker’s Compensation: We represent injured workers in appeals to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB).
- Human Rights: We provide advice and representation for individuals who have experienced discrimination in housing, employment, or services.
- Immigration and Refugee Law: We assist with refugee claims, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and deportation defense.
- Employment Law: We help workers recover unpaid wages and fight wrongful dismissal.
