Overview
About Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre
The Saskatoon Provincial Correctional Centre (SPCC) is a major secure custody facility operated by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety. Located in the city’s north industrial end, the centre houses adult male offenders who are either remanded (awaiting court dates) or serving provincial sentences of less than two years. The facility is designed to ensure public safety while providing opportunities for offender rehabilitation and reintegration.
Programs and Urban Camp
The SPCC is notable for its diverse programming aimed at addressing the root causes of criminal behaviour. A key component is the Saskatoon Urban Camp, a reduced-custody unit located on the same grounds. This program allows selected low-risk offenders to participate in supervised community work projects, contributing to local non-profits and civic maintenance while gaining valuable employment skills. Inside the main secure facility, inmates have access to:
- Addictions Programming: Dedicated units and courses for substance abuse recovery.
- Cultural Services: Indigenous programming, including access to Elders and spiritual ceremonies.
- Educational/Vocational Training: Upgrading tailored to improve literacy and employability.
Visitation Policy
Visiting an inmate at the SPCC requires strict adherence to protocol. All visitors must submit a formal application and be approved before booking a visit. The application form can be obtained online or from the facility and typically takes time to process. Visitors are subject to security checks upon arrival. The facility also accepts money deposits for inmate trust accounts (canteen funds) via cash or money order at the visitation desk during specific hours. Video visitation options may also be available to facilitate family contact.
