Overview
Parking Services and Enforcement
The City of Saskatoon’s Parking Services office is located on the main floor of City Hall at 222 3rd Avenue North. This department is responsible for the management and regulation of public parking within the city, ensuring safe and equitable access to curb space. While the enforcement officers (Commissionaires) patrol the streets, the administrative office at City Hall serves as the central point for public interaction regarding tickets, permits, and parking programs. The division operates under the authority of the Traffic Bylaw (No. 7200) and strives to balance the needs of residents, businesses, and commuters in a growing urban centre.
Ticket Payments and Disputes
Residents who have received a Parking Information Notice (ticket) can visit this office to resolve the matter. Services include:
- Payment Processing: Acceptance of fines for expired meters, time-limit violations, and other infractions. Payments can be made in person, though online and telephone options are heavily promoted for convenience. Early payment discounts (within 14 days) are typically applied to standard violations.
- Ticket Inquiries: Staff can clarify the specific bylaw infraction cited on a ticket. However, formal disputes that cannot be resolved administratively must proceed to the Provincial Court.
- Impound Release: Processing the necessary paperwork and payments to release vehicles that have been seized for outstanding fines or traffic violations.
Permit Programs
The office administers several critical parking permit schemes designed for specific user groups:
- Residential Parking Program (RPP): Issuance of permits for residents living in high-demand zones (e.g., near hospitals or the university) to park on-street in excess of posted time limits.
- Disabled Parking: Information and administration regarding parking placards for people with disabilities, ensuring accessible spaces are used appropriately.
- Veteran Parking: Registration for the Veteran Parking Program, which offers complimentary parking at municipal meters for eligible vehicles with veteran plates.
Service Access
The customer service counters at City Hall are open Monday through Friday during standard business hours. The office is closed on weekends and statutory holidays. For after-hours issues, such as reporting an illegally parked vehicle blocking a driveway, residents should contact the Parking Enforcement Dispatch line (306-975-8344), which operates 24/7. Visitors to City Hall should be prepared for security screening upon entry.
