Overview
Government Fleet Management
The Central Vehicle Agency (CVA) is a key operational unit within the Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement for the Government of Saskatchewan. Located on McLeod Street in Regina’s industrial district, the CVA is responsible for the acquisition, management, maintenance, and disposal of the provincial government’s vehicle fleet. This agency ensures that government employees have access to safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation to deliver public services across the province.
Fleet Operations
- Vehicle Procurement: Strategic purchasing and leasing of a diverse range of vehicles, from passenger sedans to specialized heavy-duty trucks, tailored to meet ministry needs.
- Maintenance and Repair: Oversight of a comprehensive maintenance program to ensure all fleet assets meet safety standards and operational readiness.
- Short-Term Rentals: Management of a central pool of vehicles available for government staff requiring temporary transportation for official business.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Implementation of green fleet strategies, including the integration of hybrid and electric vehicles to reduce the government’s carbon footprint.
Asset Control and Disposal
The CVA maintains rigorous inventory control and tracks vehicle usage data to optimize fleet size and deployment. When vehicles reach the end of their service life, the agency coordinates their decommissioning and sale, often through public auctions that return value to the provincial treasury. The McLeod Street facility serves as the administrative headquarters and primary depot for these logistical operations.
Client Services
While primarily serving internal government clients, the CVA acts as a point of contact for inquiries regarding government vehicle policy and safety protocols. The agency works with vehicle coordinators in each ministry to ensure compliance with usage policies and to facilitate driver training and authorization.
