Federal Government Services and Benefits
Financial Assistance Programs
- Employment Insurance (EI): This centre assists workers who have lost their jobs with EI applications and reporting. Staff can help clarify eligibility requirements, troubleshoot claim issues, and provide guidance on the necessary documentation to ensure timely financial support.
- Pension Services: Residents can access services related to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS). Agents are available to guide seniors through the application process for retirement pensions, survivor benefits, and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).
- Social Insurance Number (SIN): The office issues Social Insurance Numbers, a requirement for working in Canada and accessing government programs. In most cases, a SIN is issued during the visit, making it a vital stop for newcomers, students, and young workers entering the workforce.
Identification and Access
- Passport Receiving Agent: This location acts as a receiving agent for standard Canadian passport applications. It accepts applications for processing by mail. Note: Urgent or express pickup services are not available here; travelers needing immediate passports must visit a specialized Passport Office (e.g., in Mississauga or Toronto).
- Biometrics Collection: The centre collects biometrics (fingerprints and digital photos) for temporary resident visas, work permits, and study permits, facilitating the immigration process for applicants currently in Canada.
- Self-Service Stations: Public access computers are available on-site, allowing clients to access their My Service Canada Account (MSCA) to view tax slips, check payment statuses, and update personal information without waiting for an agent.
