Overview
Driver Examination and Testing Centre
Licensing Tests and Examinations
- Knowledge Tests: This centre administers the G1 written knowledge test for new drivers. No appointment is necessary for the written test, but applicants are advised to arrive at least one hour before closing. The test evaluates knowledge of traffic rules and road signs essential for safe driving.
- Road Tests: DriveTest Oakville conducts road examinations for various licence classes, including G2 (city driving) and G (highway driving) exit tests. Appointments must be booked in advance online or by phone. The centre serves a large portion of the Halton region, so booking early is recommended.
- Vision Screening: All applicants for a new driver’s licence or those renewing a commercial licence must undergo a vision screening at the counter to ensure they meet the provincial standards for visual acuity and peripheral vision.
Facility Operations
- High Volume Centre: As one of the busiest testing centres in the GTA, wait times for counter services can be significant, especially on weekends and during school holidays. It is operated by Serco DES Inc. on behalf of the Ministry of Transportation.
- Licence Exchanges: The centre handles out-of-province and out-of-country licence exchanges. Drivers moving to Ontario from jurisdictions with reciprocal agreements can exchange their licence here, while others may need to take a knowledge or road test.
