Overview
Federal Government Services and Passports
Passport Services
- 10-Day Processing: Unlike standard Service Canada Centres that act only as receiving agents, the Whitby location is a designated Passport Service site. This means it offers 10-business-day processing for passport applications, allowing for faster service than mail-in options.
- Urgent Travel: Please note that for urgent or express pickup (next business day or 2-9 days), applicants must still visit a specialized Passport Office (such as the one in Scarborough or North York). This centre supports standard and expedited needs but not emergency same-day issuance.
Benefits and Identification
- Employment Insurance (EI): Residents can receive assistance with EI applications and reporting. Agents are available to help clarify eligibility for regular, sickness, and caregiving benefits, ensuring workers receive the support they are entitled to.
- Social Insurance Number (SIN): The centre provides same-day issuance of Social Insurance Numbers for most applicants, including newcomers and students, which is essential for employment and tax purposes in Canada.
- Pensions: Staff assist seniors with applications for the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS), and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), helping to navigate the federal pension system.
