Overview
Peterborough DriveTest Centre
Licensing and Examination Services
The Peterborough DriveTest Centre is the primary facility for driver examination services in Peterborough and the Kawarthas. Operated by Serco Canada Inc. under contract with the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), this centre administers both knowledge and road tests for various license classes. It is the go-to location for residents seeking to obtain their G1 (learner’s), G2, and G class licenses, as well as motorcycle (Class M) endorsements. The centre features a digitalized waiting system where applicants for written tests can check in and wait for their turn in the testing room. For road tests, applicants must bring a vehicle in good working order; the centre does not provide vehicles for testing.
Changes to Commercial Testing (2025)
A significant operational shift occurred in 2025 regarding commercial licensing. As of May 1, 2025, this location-like others across the province-no longer conducts the traditional CVOR, Tow Truck, and Bus knowledge tests in person. These have been largely replaced by the New Entrant Education and Evaluation Program (NEEEP) and digital module training. Commercial drivers should consult the MTO website or the centre’s information boards for the most current procedures regarding Class A, B, C, D, and Z endorsements, as many of these services have transitioned to off-site or online models to streamline the licensing process.
Booking and Administrative Policies
Road tests at this facility are in high demand and typically require booking weeks or months in advance via the official DriveTest website or phone system. The centre strictly enforces a 48-hour cancellation policy; failure to cancel or reschedule within this window results in the forfeiture of the prepaid examination fee. On the day of the test, applicants must arrive 30 minutes early to complete check-in procedures at the counter. The facility accepts various payment methods including cash, credit cards, and debit, but personal cheques are generally not accepted for counter transactions. Visitors should be aware that the centre experiences high volumes, particularly during school holidays and summer months, leading to longer wait times for walk-in services like license exchanges or knowledge tests. 🚗📝🛑🇨🇦
