Overview
MTO Enforcement and Vehicle Inspection
Commercial Vehicle Safety and Regulation
The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) office located at 475 Bond Street West in Oshawa functions as a regional Enforcement and Vehicle Inspection centre. Unlike ServiceOntario or DriveTest centres that serve the general public for licensing, this facility is primarily dedicated to the regulation and oversight of commercial transportation. MTO Enforcement Officers (Carrier Safety and Enforcement Branch) operate from here to ensure that commercial vehicles, including trucks and buses, comply with the Highway Traffic Act and safety standards.
Operational Mandate
- Vehicle Inspection: Conducting safety inspections on commercial vehicles to detect mechanical defects and ensure roadworthiness.
- Carrier Enforcement: Monitoring compliance with hours of service, cargo securement, and weight limits for commercial carriers.
- Administrative Services: managing records related to local carrier audits and safety ratings (typically by appointment or for industry professionals).
Important Notice
This location does NOT issue driver’s licences, health cards, or handle personal vehicle registration. Residents requiring these services should visit a ServiceOntario location or the DriveTest centre. This office is strictly for transportation enforcement and industry regulation matters.
