Overview
Federal Government Services and Benefits
Core Mandate
The Milton Service Canada Centre serves as the primary point of access for the Government of Canada’s social programs and benefits in the Halton Region. Located on Steeles Avenue East, this office provides personalized support to citizens, assisting them with applications, document verification, and account management for various federal systems. The centre plays a vital role in the social safety net, offering direct assistance for Employment Insurance (EI), the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), and Old Age Security (OAS). It is designed to be a “one-stop” shop where residents can navigate the often complex landscape of federal bureaucracy with the help of trained citizen service officers.
Key Services Offered
The facility offers a comprehensive range of services tailored to workers, seniors, families, and newcomers to Canada.
- Social Insurance Number (SIN): The centre provides same-day issuance of Social Insurance Numbers for eligible applicants. Clients must bring original primary documents (such as a birth certificate or permanent resident card) to complete the process.
- Passport Services: As a receiving agent, this office accepts standard passport applications. Staff review documents for completeness, process payments, and forward the files to the main passport processing centres. Note: Urgent or express passport pickup services are generally not available at this location and require a visit to a specialized Passport Office.
- Biometrics and ID: The office is equipped to collect biometrics (fingerprints and photos) for immigration applications and can assist with the verification of identity documents for My Service Canada Accounts.
Accessibility and Visiting Information
The Milton Service Canada Centre is committed to providing inclusive service. The building is fully accessible to persons with reduced mobility, featuring level access and automatic doors.
- Wait Times: As a high-traffic location, wait times can vary significantly. The centre offers an estimated wait time service on its website. To minimize delays, clients are encouraged to use the eServiceCanada appointment request tool online.
- Security: Visitors should be prepared for basic security screening. The environment promotes a scent-free policy to accommodate those with sensitivities.
