Land Registration and Property Records
Digital Transition and OnLand
The Halton Land Registry Office (LRO 20) serves as the official record-keeper for real property ownership and land transactions within the Regional Municipality of Halton. Historically operating as a physical counter for title searches and deed registration, the office has transitioned its primary public-facing services to the digital realm. In accordance with the Province of Ontario’s modernization initiatives, land registration and search capabilities are now exclusively accessible through the OnLand web portal. This platform allows legal professionals, surveyors, and the general public to access the abstract/parcel register, view registered documents (such as deeds and mortgages), and retrieve survey plans without visiting a physical office.
Co-location with ServiceOntario
While the dedicated Land Registry counter is closed to the public, the physical facility at 2800 High Point Drive functions as a major ServiceOntario centre. This location provides a wide array of other provincial government services.
- Driver and Vehicle Services: Residents can renew driver’s licences, register vehicles, and obtain accessible parking permits.
- Health Services: The centre processes Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card renewals, replacements, and registrations for organ and tissue donation.
- Ministry of Labour: Certain Ministry of Labour standards and services are also administered from this multi-service hub.
Jurisdiction and Records
The LRO 20 jurisdiction covers the entirety of Halton Region, including Milton, Oakville, Burlington, and Halton Hills. The records maintained include the historic abstract indices, land titles, and property mapping (block maps). While physical “over-the-counter” paper registration is no longer the standard, the office remains the administrative authority for certifying title and ensuring the integrity of the land rights system in the region under the Land Titles Act and the Registry Act.
