Overview
Family Law Information Centre (London)
The Family Law Information Centre (FLIC) is a vital resource located within the London Courthouse at 80 Dundas Street. Operated by the Ministry of the Attorney General, it provides free information and assistance to individuals navigating the family court system. Whether dealing with separation, divorce, child custody, or support issues, the FLIC serves as a first point of contact for those who may not have their own legal representation.
Services and Support
The centre offers a range of services designed to make family law more accessible. Advice Counsel-lawyers from Legal Aid Ontario-are available at specific times to provide summary legal advice to eligible low-income clients. Staff can assist with:
- Court Forms: Helping visitors identify and review the correct documents required for their case.
- Legal Information: Explaining court procedures and legal definitions (though staff cannot give legal advice).
- Referrals: Connecting individuals with mediation services, the Mandatory Information Program (MIP), and other community resources.
Visiting the Courthouse
As the FLIC is situated inside the Superior Court of Justice, all visitors must pass through airport-style security screening. Prohibited items such as weapons and cameras are strictly not allowed. The courthouse is located in downtown London, easily accessible by public transit, with parking available in nearby paid lots. The facility ensures that residents of Middlesex County have the support they need to resolve family disputes efficiently and fairly.
