Overview
Federal Policing and Investigations
Serious and Organized Crime
- Federal Mandate: This detachment focuses on high-level federal investigations rather than day-to-day community policing. Key areas of operation include dismantling organized crime groups, investigating large-scale drug trafficking networks, and combatting financial crimes such as money laundering and market fraud.
- National Security: The London detachment plays a vital role in Canada’s national security infrastructure. Specialized Integrated National Security Enforcement Teams (INSET) work to detect, track, and prevent terrorist threats and espionage activities within the region.
- Cybercrime and Intelligence: Officers here utilize advanced technology to investigate cybercrime, protecting Canada’s critical infrastructure and economic interests from digital threats. The unit gathers and analyzes criminal intelligence to support operations across Ontario and Canada.
Office Functions
- Administrative Services: While primarily an operational hub for plainclothes investigators, the detachment provides administrative support for federal statutes. However, it typically does not handle routine calls for service (like noise complaints or traffic accidents), which are the jurisdiction of the London Police Service.
