The Dominion Public Building
- Historic Landmark: Housed in the Dominion Public Building at 457 Richmond Street, this centre is located in one of London’s most significant Art Deco structures. Built in 1936 as a job creation project during the Great Depression, the building is a Classified Federal Heritage Building known for its limestone facade and Modern Classicism design.
- Benefit Administration: The centre is the primary access point for federal financial assistance programs. Staff assist residents with applications for Employment Insurance (EI), the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), and Old Age Security (OAS), helping to clarify eligibility and resolve payment issues.
- Social Insurance Numbers: Newcomers and residents can apply for, update, or replace their Social Insurance Number (SIN). In most cases, the SIN is issued during the visit, allowing immediate access to work and government benefits.
Passport and ID Services
- Standard Passport Services: This location accepts standard passport applications. However, it is not a specialized Passport Office; it does not offer urgent (next-day) or express pickup services. Travelers requiring urgent travel documents must visit the specialized office at Cherryhill Village Mall (301 Oxford St W).
- Biometrics Collection: The office provides biometrics collection services (fingerprints and photos) for temporary resident visa, work permit, and study permit applicants, supporting the immigration process.
- Accessibility: The building is fully accessible, featuring wheelchair access and services for the hearing impaired. It serves as a central hub for government interactions in downtown London.
