Overview
Provincial Offences Administration
Traffic and Bylaw Enforcement
- Highway Traffic Act: This modern facility, located just off Highway 407, manages the administration and prosecution of non-criminal traffic offences for the Halton Region (Burlington, Oakville, Milton, Halton Hills). Common charges handled here include speeding, careless driving, and distracted driving tickets issued by Halton Regional Police or the OPP.
- Municipal Bylaws: The court also adjudicates infractions of local bylaws, such as noise complaints, parking violations (if disputed), and animal control issues, ensuring community standards are upheld across the region.
- Regulatory Offences: Beyond traffic, the court hears matters related to the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Building Code Act, and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, dealing with regulatory compliance rather than criminal code violations.
Court Services and Options
- Early Resolution: Defendants can request an Early Resolution meeting with a prosecutor to discuss their charge. This option often leads to a resolution, such as a reduced fine or amended charge, without the need for a formal trial before a Justice of the Peace.
- Remote Access: Halton Court Services has implemented extensive remote capabilities. Many hearings are conducted via Zoom, and services such as paying fines, requesting disclosure, or filing for an extension of time to pay can be completed online or by email.
