Overview
East End Policing Services
Poste de quartier 49 (PDQ 49) is the local police station responsible for the safety and security of the easternmost tip of the island of Montreal, specifically covering the independent city of Montréal-Est and the Pointe-aux-Trembles district of the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough. This vast territory includes heavy industrial zones, residential neighborhoods, and significant waterfront areas along the St. Lawrence River. As part of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), PDQ 49 adapts its strategies to the unique semi-urban and industrial character of the region.
Operational Focus
The station’s operations are tailored to the specific needs of its community:
- Industrial Security: Due to the presence of major refineries and industrial plants, officers are trained to coordinate with industrial security teams and emergency measures organizations.
- Waterfront Patrol: The station supports marine safety initiatives and patrols the extensive parklands along the river, ensuring compliance with municipal by-laws.
- Road Safety: A key priority is managing traffic flow and safety on major arteries like Sherbrooke Street East and Notre-Dame Street, as well as addressing speeding in residential zones.
Services for Residents
Residents of Pointe-aux-Trembles and Montréal-Est can access a variety of services at the station counter, which is open seven days a week. Services include the filing of police reports for crimes such as theft, mischief, and fraud, as well as assistance with domestic violence complaints and support for victims. The station also offers the Project Number program (engraving valuable items) to deter theft. Officers from PDQ 49 are deeply involved in the community, regularly participating in local events and working with schools to foster positive relationships with youth.
