Overview
Federal Government Services Hub
Essential Benefits and Programs
The Kingston Service Canada Centre acts as the primary access point for Government of Canada programs in the Kingston and Frontenac region. Relocated to 294 King Street East, this office facilitates the delivery of critical social security benefits. Citizen Service Officers are available to assist residents with applications for Employment Insurance (EI), the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), and Old Age Security (OAS). The centre serves a diverse clientele, including seniors, job seekers, and families, ensuring they can navigate the federal system to receive their entitlements.
Identity and Passport Services
Beyond financial benefits, the centre provides key identification services.
- Passport Services: This location functions as a receiving agent for standard passport applications. Staff review applications for completeness and process payments before sending them for production. Note: This office generally does not handle urgent or express passport pickups; such cases are typically referred to specialized Passport Offices.
- Social Insurance Number (SIN): The centre issues Social Insurance Numbers, a requirement for working in Canada. Applicants must present original primary documents (e.g., birth certificate, permanent resident card) to obtain their SIN on-site.
- Biometrics: The facility is equipped to collect biometrics (fingerprints and photos) for visa and immigration applicants.
Service Policy and Access
Important: To manage client volume and ensure safety, this location operates primarily on an appointment-based model.
- Appointments: Walk-in service is limited and often not supported. Clients are strongly advised to request an appointment online via the eServiceCanada tool or by calling the scheduling line. This ensures a dedicated time slot and reduces waiting times.
- Accessibility: The building is fully accessible to persons with reduced mobility. Assistive listening devices and tactile signage are available to support clients with disabilities.
- Location: Situated in downtown Kingston, the office is easily accessible by public transit, though parking in the immediate vicinity is typically paid street parking or municipal lots.
