ServiceOntario Centre Overview
Provincial Government Services Hub
The ServiceOntario Centre located at 1201 Division Street (Kingslake Plaza) serves as a primary access point for government services in Kingston and the surrounding Frontenac County. This facility provides a comprehensive “”one-stop”” experience for residents needing to access a wide range of provincial documentation and registration services. Unlike specialized offices that handle only one type of transaction, this centre integrates driver and vehicle licensing, health insurance administration, and outdoor recreational licensing under one roof. It plays a crucial role in ensuring that citizens can maintain valid legal identification and compliance with provincial regulations efficiently.
Driver and Vehicle Licensing
One of the core functions of this office is managing driver and vehicle records. Residents can visit this location to renew their driver’s license, reinstate a suspended license, or replace a lost or stolen card. The centre also handles vehicle transactions, including license plate renewal, vehicle registration (permits), and the transfer of ownership for used vehicles (including the mandatory Used Vehicle Information Package). For commercial operators, the office provides services related to Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) abstracts and heavy vehicle filings. Note that while this centre handles licensing documents, it does not conduct road tests; those are administered by separate DriveTest centres.
Health Cards and Identification
The centre is the designated location for managing Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) cards. Residents can apply for a new health card, renew an expiring one (with photo capture available on-site), or update their personal information such as a change of address. For non-drivers, the facility issues the Ontario Photo Card, a government-approved identification card that facilitates access to age-restricted services and travel within Canada. Additionally, the staff here can assist with registering for the Trillium Gift of Life Network (organ and tissue donation), integrating this important civic decision into routine administrative visits.
Specialized Services and Policies
Beyond standard ID services, this ServiceOntario location offers specialized administrative functions. It provides Commissioner of Oaths services for specific government forms, authenticating documents for domestic and international use (subject to specific criteria). Outdoor enthusiasts can purchase or renew fishing and hunting licenses, as well as obtain Outdoors Cards for recreational activities. To ensure smooth service, the centre recommends that visitors check wait times online or book an appointment where available. Strict identification policies are enforced: applicants must present original, valid documents (not photocopies) to prove their legal name, date of birth, and citizenship status. 🚗🆔🏥🇨🇦
