Overview
Regional Public Health and Safety Services
Public Health Sudbury and Districts operates its main clinical and administrative centre at 10 Elm Street (Unit 130) in downtown Sudbury. As the region’s primary health protection agency, it is responsible for delivering provincially mandated programs that promote wellness and prevent disease across Greater Sudbury and the surrounding districts. The office serves as a critical access point for residents seeking confidential health services, as well as a regulatory hub for environmental health inspections and community safety standards. The facility is committed to serving the diverse population of Northern Ontario with culturally safe and inclusive care.
Clinical and Community Programs
The Elm Street location offers a variety of direct health services to the public. Key programs include:
- Immunization Clinics: Routine vaccinations for children and adults, as well as seasonal flu and COVID-19 shots.
- Sexual Health Clinic: Confidential testing, treatment, and counseling for sexually transmitted infections, along with low-cost birth control.
- Dental Health: Screening and essential dental services for eligible seniors and children from low-income families.
- Healthy Families: Support for prenatal health, breastfeeding, and early childhood development through the Healthy Babies Healthy Children program.
Environmental Health and Protection
Beyond clinical care, this office houses the Environmental Health division. Public Health Inspectors based here are responsible for inspecting local restaurants, public pools, and personal service settings (like tattoo parlours) to enforce the Health Protection and Promotion Act. They also handle inquiries regarding safe drinking water, including testing for private well owners, and investigate potential health hazards in the community. The office at 10 Elm Street is situated within the Elm Place complex (formerly the Rainbow Centre), offering convenient access to public transit and downtown amenities. Services are available in both English and French, reflecting the bilingual nature of the Sudbury community.
