Municipal Legislative Services
The Office of the City Clerk serves as the primary administrative link between Edmonton City Council and the public. Located on the 3rd floor of City Hall, this office is responsible for the legislative governance of the city, ensuring that the decision-making processes of the municipal government are open, transparent, and accessible. It provides impartial support to Council and its committees.
Key Responsibilities
- Council Support: Management of City Council and Committee meetings, including agendas, minutes, and procedural advice.
- Elections and Census: The City Clerk acts as the Returning Officer for municipal elections and oversees the municipal census.
- Appeals and Tribunals: Administration of quasi-judicial boards such as the Assessment Review Board and the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board.
- Records Management: Oversight of corporate records and handling of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) requests.
Public Engagement
Residents wishing to speak at Council meetings or submit petitions must coordinate through this office. The Clerk’s team facilitates public hearings and ensures citizens have the opportunity to participate in local democracy. Information regarding bylaws and council voting records is also maintained here.
