Overview
Metis Settlements Land Registry
Official Land Interests Registry
The Metis Settlements Land Registry (MSLR) is a specialized government office located in the Forestry Building in downtown Edmonton. Operated by the Government of Alberta’s Ministry of Indigenous Relations, this registry records and administers land interests for the eight Metis Settlements in Alberta. Unlike the standard provincial land titles system, the MSLR operates under the Metis Settlements Act, providing a unique public service to Settlement members, councils, and industry stakeholders who hold interests in these designated lands.
- Land Interests: Records grants of land, transfers, leases, and other interests specific to the Metis Settlements.
- Membership List: Maintains the official Metis Settlements Members List, which is critical for verifying rights and eligibility within the settlements.
- Public Searches: Facilitates searches of the registry for legal and historical information regarding Settlement lands.
Office Access and Procedures
The office is situated on the 9th floor of 9920 108 Street NW. While it is a public office, many services are handled through correspondence or by coordination with specific Settlement councils. Visitors wishing to conduct complex searches or file documents in person are advised to contact the registry in advance. The facility ensures the accuracy and security of land records which are fundamental to the self-governance and economic development of the Metis Settlements.
