Grierson Institution
The Grierson Institution is a federal minimum-security correctional facility located in the heart of downtown Edmonton, Alberta. Operated by the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), this unique institution is housed in a designated federal heritage building that formerly served as the RCMP ‘K’ Division headquarters. It accommodates a small population of adult male offenders, primarily focusing on community reintegration and preparing inmates for their eventual release.
Historical Significance
Constructed in 1912, the facility features distinctive Collegiate Gothic architecture. It transitioned from a police barracks to a correctional centre in 1997, merging historical preservation with modern correctional mandates.
