Profile
Access to Justice for Our Community
Legal challenges can be overwhelming, especially when financial resources are limited. North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services (NPDCLS) is a non-profit community legal clinic dedicated to providing free legal assistance to low-income residents in Brampton, Caledon, and Dufferin County. Funded by Legal Aid Ontario, our mission is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their economic status, has equal access to justice. We provide summary advice, representation, and public legal education to empower the most vulnerable members of our society.
Areas of Support
We focus on areas of law that most directly impact the basic needs and livelihoods of our clients. Our services include:
- Housing Law (Tenants Only): protecting tenants from eviction, fighting illegal rent increases, and addressing maintenance issues with the Landlord and Tenant Board.
- Income Maintenance: assisting with appeals and issues related to Ontario Works (OW), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), and Canada Pension Plan (CPP).
- Immigration: helping with humanitarian and compassionate applications, sponsorship breakdowns, and permanent residence issues (note: we do not handle refugee claims).
- Employment Law: advising workers on their rights regarding wrongful dismissal, unpaid wages, and employment standards.
We are committed to removing barriers to legal help. If you cannot speak English, we offer interpretation services in over 200 languages to ensure you fully understand your rights and options. If you need to find a lawyer for a landlord dispute or government benefit appeal but cannot afford private counsel, we are here to help.
Downtown Brampton Location
Our clinic is located in the heart of downtown Brampton at 24 Queen Street East. We are situated in a central office building that is easily accessible to the community. Please note that our services are eligibility-based, focusing on those with low incomes. We encourage you to contact us to see if you qualify for our assistance.
Justice should not be a luxury. We are here to fight for your rights and dignity.
Do not let financial constraints prevent you from seeking justice. Contact North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services today for a confidential assessment of your legal needs.
