Overview
Correctional Service Canada – Laval Parole Office
Agency Role and Mission
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), established in its current form in 1979, is the federal agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more. The Laval Parole Office (Bureau de libération conditionnelle) plays a critical role in the public safety continuum by supervising offenders who have been released into the community on various forms of conditional release, such as day parole, full parole, or statutory release. This office ensures that offenders adhere to strict conditions set by the Parole Board of Canada while supporting their safe reintegration into society as law-abiding citizens.
Supervision and Services
- Community Supervision: Parole officers at this location monitor the behavior and progress of offenders living in the Laval area. This involves regular meetings, risk assessments, and collaboration with police and community partners.
- Reintegration Programs: The office facilitates access to correctional programs designed to address factors contributing to criminal behavior, such as substance abuse, employment difficulties, and social skills deficits.
- Community Assessment: Staff conduct community assessments to evaluate the suitability of a release plan, including checking the proposed residence and support network of an offender before they are released.
Location and Security
Located in the Place Laval complex, this office is an administrative hub and a reporting center. It is not a prison facility but a secure government office. Access is controlled, and visitors-including offenders reporting for supervision-may be subject to security screening. The office operates in close partnership with community residential facilities (halfway houses) and local police services to manage risk effectively. Visits are generally by appointment only, specifically for those under supervision or their registered contacts.
