Overview
Barrie Collision Reporting Centre
The Barrie Collision Reporting Centre (CRC) is located inside the Barrie Police Service Headquarters at 110 Fairview Road. Operated in partnership with Accident Support Services International Ltd., this facility allows the public to report motor vehicle collisions that meet specific criteria, relieving police officers from attending minor accident scenes. Reporting here is a legal requirement for certain types of accidents and helps streamline the insurance claims process.
When to Use the CRC
Motorists involved in a collision must attend the CRC if there are no injuries, no criminal activity (such as impaired driving), and the combined damage to all vehicles exceeds $2,000. If a vehicle is not drivable, it must be towed directly to the CRC during operating hours. At the centre, staff assist drivers in completing the necessary police report and photograph the vehicle damage for documentation.
- Damage Documentation: Digital imaging of vehicle damage for police and insurance records.
- Self-Reporting: Kiosks available for drivers to input collision details.
- Damage Stickers: Issuance of ‘Reported’ stickers to prevent future police stops for the same damage.
Important Procedures
Before arriving, drivers should exchange information (license, registration, insurance) at the scene. The vehicle and the driver must be present at the CRC to file the report. The centre provides a safe, indoor environment to complete paperwork, avoiding the dangers of reporting on the roadside.
