Service Centre and Administration
The City of Fredericton’s Parking Division operates out of the Service Centre located at the rear of City Hall on Queen Street. This office is the central authority for all parking-related matters within the municipality. Whether a resident needs to purchase a monthly parking pass for a downtown garage, pay a parking ticket, or inquire about zoning restrictions, this is the primary point of contact. The division has modernized its operations significantly, transitioning to a ‘virtual permit’ system where physical hang-tags are no longer required; instead, enforcement is conducted via license plate recognition technology. The City partners with HotSpot Parking to facilitate mobile payments for meters and permits, making the process seamless for users. 🚗🅿️📱
Winter Parking Ban and Enforcement
A critical function of this division is the enforcement of the Overnight Winter Parking Ban. From October 1 to May 31, parking is strictly prohibited on all city streets (and surface lots) between midnight and 7:00 a.m. to facilitate snow removal and ice control. This ban is enforced regardless of weather conditions, and the division manages the towing and ticketing of non-compliant vehicles. The fines for violations are strictly upheld to ensure that snow plows can operate safely and efficiently. Residents can subscribe to email alerts to stay informed about lifting or reinstatement of bans during the shoulder seasons.
Dispute and Payment Options
For those who have received a parking infraction, the office provides several avenues for resolution. Tickets can be paid online, via the HotSpot app, or in-person at the Service Centre. The division also handles the initial review of ticket disputes for clear errors (e.g., broken meter), although legal challenges are referred to the provincial court system. The staff at this location also manage the waitlists for the highly sought-after monthly spots in the Frederick Square and East End parking garages, which are essential for the downtown workforce. By balancing enforcement with accessible parking solutions, the division aims to support the economic vitality of the downtown core while maintaining order on the streets.
