Overview
North Shore Community Policing Office
The North Shore Community Policing Office (CPO) is a key satellite detachment of the Kamloops RCMP, located at 915 7th Street. Situated on the North Shore, this facility provides a convenient alternative for residents to access police services without traveling to the main Battle Street detachment. The office is staffed by a combination of municipal employees and trained volunteers who work to foster a safe community environment. It serves as a hub for various crime prevention initiatives and offers a welcoming space for the public to report concerns and obtain information on safety programs. The location also features a City of Kamloops payment drop box for utility bills, adding to its utility as a community service point.
Services and Administration
The North Shore CPO handles a wide range of administrative police services. Residents can visit to apply for Police Information Checks (Criminal Record Checks) and Vulnerable Sector Checks for employment or volunteer purposes. The office provides fingerprinting services specifically for civil applications (such as immigration or pardons), though these are typically by appointment during specific morning hours. Staff can also assist with document verification, chauffeur’s permits, and answering inquiries regarding firearms or local bylaws.
Community Programs and Reporting
A primary focus of this office is community engagement. It houses the Crime Prevention Section, which coordinates volunteer-led programs like Speed Watch, Crime Watch, and Restorative Justice. While the office accepts reports for non-emergency crimes (such as theft under $5000 or mischief where no suspect is present), it does not have holding cells or dispatch capabilities; emergencies must be directed to 9-1-1. The CPO aims to reduce crime through education and by maintaining a visible police presence in the North Shore neighbourhood.
