Profile
Integrated Legal and Social Support
Legal Assistance of Windsor (LAW) is a unique community legal clinic located in downtown Windsor, Ontario. Funded by Legal Aid Ontario and affiliated with the University of Windsor Faculty of Law, the clinic provides a multidisciplinary approach to justice. LAW combines legal representation with social work services, recognizing that legal problems are often intertwined with social and health issues. This integrated model allows the clinic to support the whole person, addressing not just the legal symptoms but also the underlying causes of crisis. The clinic serves low-income residents of Windsor and Essex County, striving to meet the needs of the most vulnerable members of the community.
Comprehensive Services
The clinic focuses on areas of law that most impact basic needs and human rights. Their services include:
- Housing Stability: Representing tenants facing eviction and advocating for safe housing conditions.
- Income Maintenance: Assisting with appeals for social benefits like ODSP and OW.
- Immigration and Refugee Law: Helping with humanitarian applications, refugee claims, and deportation defence.
- Human Rights: Advocating for individuals facing discrimination or exploitation, including support for victims of human trafficking.
If you need to find a lawyer but cannot afford private counsel, Legal Assistance of Windsor provides high-quality legal aid to those who qualify.
Downtown Hub for Justice
Legal Assistance of Windsor is located at 443 Ouellette Avenue, in the heart of the city’s downtown core. The office is fully accessible and designed to be a safe, welcoming space for all clients. Its proximity to the bus terminal and other social service agencies makes it a convenient hub for accessing support.
A Learning Environment
