Profile
Access to Justice for All
Waterloo Region Community Legal Services (WRCLS) is a non-profit community legal clinic located in Kitchener, Ontario, funded by Legal Aid Ontario. Founded in 1980, the clinic operates with a mission to provide equitable access to justice for low-income individuals and disadvantaged communities within the Waterloo Region. The team of lawyers, paralegals, and social workers is dedicated to removing barriers that prevent people from enforcing their legal rights, particularly in areas affecting basic needs and livelihood.
WRCLS does not charge for its services, ensuring that financial status is never an obstacle to obtaining legal help. The clinic focuses on poverty law, offering summary advice, legal representation, and public legal education. They are also deeply involved in community development and law reform, advocating for systemic changes to improve the lives of those living in poverty. Their office on Frederick Street is a safe and welcoming space for all clients.
Services Offered
- Housing Law (Tenant Rights): Assistance with evictions, maintenance issues, and illegal rent increases. The clinic fights to keep people housed and protect them from unfair landlord practices.
- Income Maintenance: Legal support for appeals regarding Ontario Works (OW), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), and Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Disability benefits.
- Employment Law: Advice and representation for non-unionized workers facing wrongful dismissal, unpaid wages, or violations of the Employment Standards Act.
- Indigenous Justice: Culturally supportive legal services provided by an Indigenous Justice Coordinator, including Gladue writing and restorative justice initiatives.

Waterloo Region Community Legal Services is more than just a law office; it is a lifeline for many residents. Whether you are struggling to find a lawyer for a disability appeal or need advice on a workplace harassment issue, WRCLS provides expert guidance at no cost to eligible clients.
The clinic serves the cities of Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge, as well as the surrounding townships. If you meet the financial eligibility criteria, this organization is your primary resource for legal aid in the region.
