Overview
The Civic Heart of Mississauga
Mississauga City Hall, often referred to as the Civic Centre, is the seat of local government and a striking architectural landmark located in the downtown core near Square One. Opened in 1987, the building is renowned for its award-winning Postmodern design, which incorporates elements symbolizing the area’s agricultural past, such as a clock tower resembling a windmill and a main building evocative of a farmhouse. Beyond its aesthetics, it serves as the central hub for the City of Mississauga‘s administration, housing the Mayor’s Office, City Council Chambers, and various municipal departments dedicated to serving residents and businesses 🏙️.
Service Mississauga and Public Counters
The ground floor features the Service Mississauga desk, a primary point of contact for general inquiries and 311 services. Residents can access a wide range of municipal services here, including:
- Tax and Fines: Payment counters for property taxes and parking tickets (note: property taxes cannot be paid by credit card directly at the counter).
- Clerk’s Office: Issuance of marriage licences, burial permits, and commissioning of oaths.
- Planning and Building: The Planning and Building Customer Services Centre assists with building permits, zoning inquiries, and development applications.
- Council Meetings: The public is welcome to attend City Council and committee meetings held in the cylindrical Council Chamber.
