Office Location and Role
The Halifax Regional Police (HRP) Central Division Office, located in the Halifax Shopping Centre Annex on Mumford Road, serves as a key operational hub for policing the urban core of the municipality. While the main police headquarters is located on Gottingen Street, this satellite location provides a strategic base for the Divisional Commander and officers dedicated to the West End and surrounding areas. This office focuses on ‘community policing,’ a strategy that emphasizes building relationships with citizens to prevent crime and solve local problems proactively. The Central Division covers a diverse area, ranging from the historic waterfront to the bustling retail corridors of Mumford and Bayers Road. 👮♂️🚓🏙️
Community Engagement
Residents typically interact with this office when they have quality-of-life concerns such as recurring noise issues, loitering, or traffic complaints in their specific neighbourhood. The Community Response Officers stationed here work flexible hours to attend community meetings and address long-term issues that regular patrol officers may not have time to resolve. This location effectively decentralizes police command, allowing for faster response times and a better understanding of the unique challenges faced by the West End community. It also supports the deployment of the Quick Response Unit and other specialized teams as needed.
