Provincial Community Corrections
Probation and Supervision Services
The Correctional Services Community Office in Spryfield is a satellite location for the Nova Scotia Department of Justice. This office is staffed by Probation Officers who are responsible for the supervision of adults and youth serving community-based sentences. Unlike a jail, this is an administrative centre where clients report to their supervisors as required by the courts. The staff here monitor compliance with court orders, such as probation, conditional sentences (house arrest), and peace bonds. They play a critical role in the justice system by enforcing conditions while simultaneously assisting clients in accessing rehabilitation programs, employment training, and mental health support.
Reporting and Programs
Individuals directed to report to the Spryfield office engage in various mandatory activities:
- Regular Reporting: Scheduled in-person meetings to review living situations, employment status, and adherence to court conditions.
- Pre-Sentence Reports: Officers conduct investigations and interview collateral contacts to prepare detailed reports that assist judges in sentencing decisions.
- Community Service Order Program: Coordinating and monitoring the completion of court-ordered community service hours at local non-profit organizations.
This office operates by appointment. Clients must report as directed by their Probation Officer. The facility maintains a professional environment, and zero tolerance for aggressive behaviour is enforced.
