Client Service Centre
Located on Gottingen Street in the North End of Halifax, this Department of Community Services office is the primary point of contact for individuals and families requiring financial assistance in the Halifax Peninsula area. The Employment Support and Income Assistance (ESIA) program helps those who are unable to support themselves due to unemployment, disability, or other barriers. Caseworkers at this location conduct financial assessments to determine eligibility based on income and assets. The office environment is designed to assist clients in navigating the often complex social safety net, providing not just financial aid but also connections to training and education programs to foster independence. 💸🥗🆘
Application and Review Process
New applicants are encouraged to contact the intake line first, but this office serves as a location for dropping off required documents, meeting with caseworkers for annual reviews, and picking up cheques in specific circumstances. The staff can assist with applying for additional benefits like the heating assistance rebate or special diet allowances. The office also handles decision reviews for clients who wish to appeal a modification or denial of their benefits. Given the high volume of clients, appointments are strongly recommended to ensure availability of a caseworker.
