Surrey Archives
The Surrey Archives is the official repository for the historical records of the City of Surrey. Housed in the designated heritage 1912 Municipal Hall in the community of Cloverdale, this facility is dedicated to preserving and making available the documentary heritage of the region. It operates under the jurisdiction of the City of Surrey’s Parks, Recreation and Culture department.
Collections and Research
The Archives holds a vast collection of materials that document the history of Surrey from the 1870s to the present day. Researchers, students, and genealogists can access a wide array of resources in the Reference Room.
- Photographs: Over 100,000 historical images depicting the development of Surrey’s communities.
- Municipal Records: Council minutes, bylaws, and tax assessment rolls dating back to the municipality’s incorporation.
- Maps and Plans: Historic maps, engineering plans, and architectural drawings.
- Community Records: Papers from local families, businesses, and community organizations.
Visitor Information
Access to the Reference Room is free, but visitors must register for a Researcher Card upon arrival. Staff are available to assist with finding aids and retrieval of materials. ⚠️ Note: To protect the collection, strict rules apply. Pens, food, and drink are prohibited in the reading room. Lockers are provided for personal belongings. The facility offers research terminals and microfilm readers.
