Profile
Leading Labour and Employment Law Firm
Cavalluzzo LLP is one of Canada’s leading labour and employment law firms, dedicated to advancing the rights of working people and social justice. Since our founding in 1983, we have built a reputation for excellence in advocacy, representing trade unions, professional associations, and individual employees across Ontario and Canada. Our firm is deeply committed to equality, fighting against discrimination in all its forms. We do not just represent clients; we champion causes that matter, from pay equity and occupational health and safety to Indigenous rights and constitutional law.
Union-Side Labour Law
We are widely recognized as a top-tier union-side labour law firm. We act as general counsel to many of the country’s largest and most influential trade unions in both the public and private sectors. Our services include:
- Collective Bargaining: Negotiating robust collective agreements that protect workers’ wages, benefits, and working conditions.
- Grievance Arbitration: Representing unions and members in disputes regarding contract interpretation, discipline, and discharge.
- Strike and Lockout Advice: Providing strategic legal counsel during labour disputes to ensure lawful and effective industrial action.
- Certification Applications: assisting workers in organizing and forming new bargaining units.
Employment Law for Employees
Beyond our union work, we provide fierce representation for non-unionized employees facing workplace challenges. We understand the power imbalance between employer and employee and work to level the playing field. We handle:
- Wrongful Dismissal: Securing fair severance packages for employees terminated without cause.
- Constructive Dismissal: advocating for employees forced out of their jobs due to toxic work environments or unilateral changes to their employment terms.
- Human Rights: Representing individuals who have faced discrimination or harassment based on race, gender, disability, or sexual orientation.
- Professional Regulation: Defending nurses, teachers, doctors, and other professionals facing disciplinary proceedings before their regulatory colleges.
Social Justice and Public Interest Litigation
Cavalluzzo LLP is at the forefront of public interest litigation. Our lawyers have appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada in landmark cases that have shaped the constitutional landscape of the country. We are actively involved in class actions and test cases involving government liability, pension rights, and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. If you are looking for a law firm that combines legal brilliance with a social conscience, Cavalluzzo LLP is your partner in justice.
Advocacy with impact. We fight for fairness in the workplace and equality in society.
