Profile
Access to Justice for All
The Legal Clinic of Guelph and Wellington County is a non-profit community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario. Dedicated to providing free legal services to low-income residents, the clinic plays a vital role in ensuring that vulnerable members of the community have access to justice. They offer a range of services from summary legal advice to full representation in courts and tribunals, focusing on areas of law that most directly affect the basic needs and rights of individuals.
Specialized Legal Support
- Housing & Tenant Rights: Assisting tenants with evictions, maintenance issues, and disputes with landlords to prevent homelessness and ensure safe living conditions.
- Income Maintenance: helping clients appeal denials or navigate issues with Ontario Works (OW), the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), and Canada Pension Plan Disability (CPP-D) benefits.
- Employment Law: Advising non-unionized workers on their rights regarding wrongful dismissal, unpaid wages, and workplace harassment.
- Human Rights: Providing guidance on discrimination and equality rights cases.
Downtown Community Hub
The clinic is located at 176 Wyndham Street North, housed within the Guelph Community Health Centre building. This strategic location in downtown Guelph allows for integrated care, as clients can access legal aid alongside health and social services. The central setting ensures that help is physically accessible to those who rely on public transit or live in the city center.
Mobile Law Van
In addition to their main office, the clinic operates a Mobile Law Van (seasonal) that travels to rural communities within Wellington County. This innovative outreach program removes transportation barriers, bringing legal advice directly to people in remote areas who might otherwise struggle to access the Guelph office.
